A Continuum of Outpatient Care
Rubicon Recovery Center offers a powerful combination of intensive clinical care and structured sober living. This model provides a supportive bridge between residential treatment and independent life, allowing clients to practice recovery skills in a real-world context with robust support. Each program is designed to meet clients where they are and guide them toward lasting sobriety.
Typical Length: 30-45 Days
PHP is the core program, involving full-day clinical programming 6 days a week. Clients engage in individual therapy, group sessions, and holistic activities at the clinical center, then return to a supervised, gender-specific sober living apartment in the evenings. This structure provides the intensity of residential care with a gradual re-introduction to independent living.
Program Options: 3 or 5 Days/Week
IOP serves as a step-down from PHP or a direct entry point for those needing less intensive care. Clients attend therapy sessions for several hours, either 3 or 5 days a week. This flexible schedule allows for a return to work, school, or family responsibilities while continuing to receive vital clinical support. A housing option is also available with the IOP program.
The housing component is central to Rubicon's model. Clients live in clean, comfortable, gender-specific apartments with peers who share the same recovery goals. This environment provides 24/7 support, accountability, and the opportunity to build a strong sober social network, which is crucial for long-term success.
Environment & Accommodations
Rubicon Recovery Center operates a unique dual-location model. Clinical services take place at their professional office suite in Watchung, NJ, while clients reside in separate, comfortable sober living apartments. This setup helps clients distinguish between "treatment" and "home," promoting real-world life skills. With a small total capacity of just 16 clients across four apartments, the program fosters an intimate and highly supportive community.
Clients live in one of four gender-specific apartments (3 male, 1 female), creating a true home-like atmosphere away from the clinical setting.
Each client shares a room with one roommate, which is essential for building peer accountability, support, and camaraderie.
While housing is gender-specific, clinical groups and community activities are co-ed, reflecting a realistic social environment.
Policies & Rules
This is a voluntary program, not a locked facility. However, clients are supervised 24/7 and are not permitted to leave the property alone. Leaving results in discharge.
Medication-Assisted Treatment with Suboxone/Subutex is supported on a case-by-case basis based on client needs, though the program prefers to taper clients off medication. Methadone is not prescribed.
Smoking cigarettes, vaping, and using chewing tobacco are all permitted in designated outdoor areas at the residences.
Personal cell phones are allowed. There is an initial 3-day "blackout" period, after which clients can use their phones in the evenings at the apartments.
Family involvement is encouraged. Family therapy sessions are part of the program, and clients can earn day passes with family in the latter half of their treatment.
To ensure safety, drugs, alcohol, weapons, and any non-prescribed medications are strictly prohibited on the premises.

Inpatient treatment is the most intensive level, where you live 24/7 at the facility receiving constant care. Outpatient is less intensive, where you live at home and visit for therapy. Rubicon's PHP with housing is a supportive middle ground: you attend intensive, full-day therapy at the clinical center, then return to a separate, supervised sober living house in the evenings, blending structure with growing independence.
