Frequently Asked Questions
Program & Treatment
Why choose us? What makes it different than other addiction treatment centers?
Brookdale stands out due to its unique resort-like campus in the Poconos, providing a tranquil environment for healing. Our "Patient First" approach, experienced staff, and innovative aftercare program, Discovery 365™, create a comprehensive support system. We also offer specialized programs for executives, veterans, and first responders.
What substance use disorder treatment programs do you offer?
We offer a focused continuum of care that includes Medical Detox and Residential Treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. We also have a premium Signature Program and specialized tracks for Veterans and First Responders.
How do you treat dual diagnosis / co-occurring disorders?
We treat dual diagnosis with an integrated approach. Our on-staff psychiatrist and clinical team work together to address both the substance use disorder and any co-occurring mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression, simultaneously.
What types of therapies are used?
Our program is built on evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), individual counseling, and daily group therapy sessions.
Does this program use the 12-Steps?
Yes, 12-Step facilitation is a core part of our program. We also offer alternative peer support groups, such as SMART Recovery and Dharma, to provide clients with a variety of pathways to recovery.
Is the program faith-based?
No, our program is clinically focused and not based in any specific faith, making it welcoming to individuals from all spiritual backgrounds and belief systems.
How long has this facility been open?
Brookdale Premier Addiction Recovery was founded and began operations in 2019.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?
The main difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment lies in where and how a person receives care. Inpatient treatment (like Brookdale Recovery) means you live full-time at the facility for a set period — usually 30, 60, or 90 days. It provides a highly structured environment, 24/7 medical supervision, and daily therapy sessions. The focus is on total immersion in recovery, away from triggers, stress, and access to substances. Patients receive medical detox if needed, individual and group therapy, and holistic or wellness activities (like yoga or fitness). It’s best for people with moderate to severe addiction, co-occurring mental health issues, or unstable living environments. Outpatient treatment, on the other hand, allows you to live at home while attending scheduled therapy sessions at a clinic or center — anywhere from a few hours a week to daily programs. It offers more flexibility for work, school, or family responsibilities, but also requires stronger self-discipline since you remain in your regular environment. Outpatient programs range from standard outpatient (a few hours weekly) to intensive outpatient (IOP) or partial hospitalization (PHP), which provide more structured daily care without overnight stays. In short: inpatient = immersive, 24/7 care in a controlled setting; outpatient = flexible treatment while living at home.

Our facility is a former resort in the Poconos, set on a 100-acre property with a private lake. It includes a main building for clinical services and dining, a separate fitness center with an indoor pool, and modern cabins that serve as client residences.

What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?
While we do not offer outpatient programs, we provide robust discharge planning to connect clients with external providers. Our unique aftercare includes Discovery 365™, a "virtual safety net" that provides support, resources, and community connection for a full year after leaving our care.
