Program & Treatment
Why choose us? What makes it different than other addiction treatment centers?
With decades of experience since 1992, we are committed to providing excellent, affordable, and accessible care. We honor each client's dignity and self-determination, offering a comprehensive continuum of care from detox to outpatient services, and we are a key resource for those with Nebraska Medicaid.
What substance use disorder treatment programs do you offer?
We offer a full spectrum of services, including Social Detox (non-medical), Residential Treatment, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and general Outpatient Program (OP).
How do you treat dual diagnosis / co-occurring disorders?
Yes, we treat co-occurring disorders. Our counseling staff is equipped to address mental health conditions like anxiety and depression alongside substance use. However, we do not have psychiatrists on staff for advanced medication management.
What types of therapies are used?
Our therapeutic approach includes individual counseling, group therapy, family involvement, and 12-Step facilitation. We address a range of issues including anxiety, depression, emotional trauma, and family problems.
Does this program use the 12-Steps?
Yes, the 12-Step model is an integral part of our program. Clients attend both in-house and off-site AA/NA meetings to build a foundation in this peer-support fellowship.
Is the program faith-based?
No, our program is not faith-based. While the 12-Steps have a spiritual component, our core treatment is clinical and suitable for people of all beliefs.
How long has this facility been open?
Behavioral Health Specialists, Inc. was founded and has been serving the community since 1992.
Cost & Admission
What will my costs be for treatment?
Self-pay costs are approximately $400/day for social detox and $500/day for residential care (around $15,000 for 30 days). IOP is about $800/week. An outpatient intake is $280, with individual sessions at $190. We also accept Nebraska Medicaid and other insurances.
Do you accept insurance for substance use disorder treatment?
Yes, we accept Nebraska Medicaid and a wide variety of commercial insurance plans, including BCBS of Nebraska, United HealthCare, Aetna, Cigna, and many others.
Do you provide detoxification services?
We offer social detoxification, which is a non-medical, supervised withdrawal program. If a client requires medical detox for severe withdrawal symptoms, we will refer them to a local hospital at their own cost.
Is Suboxone (MAT) permitted?
Yes, we are MAT-friendly. Clients who are already prescribed Suboxone or other forms of MAT by an outside provider can continue their medication while in our care. However, our facility does not prescribe or dispense MAT.
Daily Life & Rules
How long will I be there?
The length of stay varies by program. Social detox is typically 5-7 days. The residential program is 30 days. IOP lasts for about 8 weeks (2-3 months), and general outpatient care can continue for as long as needed.
What is the living situation like? Can I get my own room?
Clients live in a structured, clinical facility that was formerly a nursing home. Rooms are shared, typically with three people per room, and are gender-specific. Private rooms are not available.
Is this a closed/locked facility?
Yes, for the safety and security of our clients, this is a locked facility. While treatment is voluntary and you could choose to leave, you cannot go outside on your own without staff supervision.
Can I use my phone/laptop? Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas. Personal electronics like cell phones and laptops are not permitted. After a 7-day initial blackout period, you may use the facility's landline phone for 10 minutes per day.
What should I bring? What should I leave at home?
Bring: A completed physical form, a 30-day supply of all prescribed medications, about 7 changes of comfortable clothing, personal hygiene items (alcohol-free), and your insurance card.
Leave at home: Electronics, aerosol cans, products containing alcohol (mouthwash, perfume), inappropriate materials, any drug/alcohol paraphernalia, and outside food/drinks.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?
Inpatient (residential) treatment means you live at the facility 24/7 in a highly structured, immersive environment away from daily triggers. Outpatient treatment allows you to live at home and continue with work or school while attending scheduled therapy sessions at the facility, offering more flexibility but requiring more self-discipline.
Support, Staff & Community
Who provides care here? Are there psychiatrists on staff?
Care is provided by a team of licensed counselors and on-site nurses. Medical oversight is conducted by medical providers via telehealth. There are no doctors or psychiatrists physically on staff.
Who else will be in treatment with me?
You will be in a co-ed program with other adults (18+) from various backgrounds. With a capacity of 33 beds, the community is relatively small. Many clients utilize Nebraska Medicaid, making it an accessible program for the local population.
What is the family involvement and visitation policy?
Family involvement is encouraged. On-site visits are permitted on weekends. Additionally, there is a dedicated family day every other Thursday. There is a 7-day blackout period with no calls or visits at the beginning of treatment.
What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?
We provide robust discharge planning and a seamless transition to our own step-down levels of care. Clients can continue their recovery journey in our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or general Outpatient programs for ongoing support.
