Frequently Asked Questions
Program & Treatment
Why choose us? What makes it different than other addiction treatment centers?
We are an accredited, small, and affordable program that is free for veterans. With over 10 years of licensed operation, we provide individualized care from people who have achieved sobriety themselves and genuinely care, distinguishing us from larger, less personal 'rehab mills'.
Does this program use the 12-steps?
Yes, our entire program is an intensive, immersive experience centered around working the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is the core of our approach to recovery.
What types of therapies are used?
While our focus is the 12-steps, we incorporate therapeutic modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Psychodrama techniques to help process trauma, anxiety, and depression.
Do you treat co-occurring mental disorders (dual diagnosis)?
No. As a peer-run facility without medical or clinical staff, we do not formally treat dual diagnosis. Our program focuses on the spiritual solution of the 12-steps for addiction, though many find this process helps alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
What substance use disorder treatment programs do you offer?
We offer a single, focused program: a 28-day men's residential treatment based on a 12-step immersion model for substance use disorders.
Is the program faith-based?
Our program is not based on a specific religion. It is spiritual in nature, aligned with the principles of the 12-steps, which encourage finding a "higher power of your own understanding." We incorporate practices like meditation.
How long has this facility been open?
Solutions Retreat was founded and has been offering services since 2014.
Is Suboxone (MAT) permitted?
Yes. While we believe in a spiritual solution, we understand the role of MAT. If you are on Suboxone or other medication-assisted treatments, you can continue them here. Our staff will hold your medication and ensure you receive it as prescribed.
Do you provide detoxification services?
We are not a licensed detox facility. However, we can provide some non-narcotic comfort medications for minor withdrawal symptoms like sleeplessness or upset stomach to help you transition into the program.
Who provides care here? Are there psychiatrists on staff?
Care and guidance are provided by a peer-run staff. The owners and facilitators have decades of their own sobriety and guide clients through the 12 steps. There are no medical or clinical staff like doctors or psychiatrists on site.
What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?
We do not offer our own aftercare programs. However, upon discharge, our staff will assist you in finding and arranging placement in suitable halfway houses or other aftercare options if needed.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?
Inpatient (or residential) addiction treatment means you live at the facility full-time for the duration of the program—typically 28 days or longer—receiving 24/7 care, therapy, and support in a structured environment away from everyday triggers and stressors. This level of care is ideal for individuals with severe addictions, co-occurring mental health issues, or those who need a stable, immersive setting to begin recovery. Outpatient addiction treatment, on the other hand, allows you to live at home and attend treatment sessions part-time, such as a few hours per day or several days per week. This option offers flexibility for people who have work, school, or family responsibilities and whose addiction is less severe or stable enough for community-based recovery. While inpatient treatment provides intensive supervision and structure, outpatient care focuses on maintaining recovery skills and support while reintegrating into daily life.
Cost & Admission
What will my costs be for treatment?
The self-pay cost is $7,900 for the 28-day program, and a payment plan is available. For eligible U.S. veterans, the program is completely free of charge, covered by the VA.
Do you accept insurance?
We are an in-network provider with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) via the VA-CCN and Tricare. We do not accept private insurance or Medicaid, but we offer an affordable self-pay rate.
Daily Life, Rules & Family
How long will I be there?
Our core residential program has a fixed length of 28 days.
What is the living situation like? Can I get my own room?
The living situation is a comfortable, shared home. There are no private rooms; all clients have roommates to foster fellowship and accountability. The campus is the house and its yard.
Is this a closed/locked facility?
The program is voluntary, and you are free to leave at any time (AMA discharge). However, for the safety and structure of the program, you cannot leave the property without staff permission and supervision.
Can I use my phone/laptop? Is smoking allowed?
Yes, smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas, and we provide cigarettes at no cost. Personal electronics like phones and laptops are not allowed. After a one-week blackout period, you will have access to a house phone for 15 minutes each day.
What should I bring? What should I leave at home?
Bring: About a week's worth of comfortable, modest clothing, new/unopened alcohol-free toiletries, ID and insurance cards, and a list of important phone numbers.
Leave at home: Valuables, electronics (phones, laptops), weapons, non-prescribed medications, revealing clothing, and any food or drinks.
What is the layout of the campus?
The "campus" is a single, comfortable house located in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Nashville. The setting is intimate and home-like, not a large, institutional facility.
Who will be in treatment with me?
You will be in a small, tight-knit group of up to 6 adult men who are also seeking recovery from addiction. The clientele consists of both self-paying individuals and U.S. veterans.
What is the family involvement and visitation policy?
On the second Saturday of your stay, you are allowed a family visit from 12 PM to 2 PM. During this time, your family can take you for an off-site lunch or outing.
