Stepping Stone Center recommends leaving electronic devices at home, including cell phones, laptops, and tablets. If brought, they are collected and securely stored upon arrival. Instead, clients can use campus phones for brief calls, typically allowed twice a day, ensuring a focused, interruption‑free residential experience.

The residences are designed to feel like apartments, with shared living spaces to encourage a sense of community among clients. Amenities include a cafeteria, laundry room, community rooms, and recreational areas with games, television, and reading materials. At Stepping Stone Center, the living situation is designed to transition with a client's progress in treatment. In the initial phases, clients reside in semi-private, modern rooms with private bathrooms within the main facility, where common areas are available for socializing and recreation. As they advance to the final two phases, they move into gender-specific, two-bedroom recovery apartments located off-campus, which feature their own kitchen, bathroom, and living area, providing a more independent setting. These apartments are staffed 24/7 and clients are provided transportation to and from the main facility for treatment, as well as to local 12-step meetings, offering a supportive bridge from inpatient care to their next living situation.

The living situation is described as shared living spaces, implying that private rooms are generally not available. During the first two phases of treatment, clients are placed in semi-private rooms with an attached bathroom. In the final two phases, clients move into shared, two-bedroom recovery apartments with other clients of the same gender.

Pack only two normal-sized bags, as staff will inspect each item. Bring comfortable clothes (T-shirts, jeans, sweats, gym clothes), shoes, alcohol- and drug-free personal care items, your insurance card, prescription card, and ID, along with a 30-day supply of medications in original bottles, including any over-the-counter meds, which will be turned over to nursing staff. You may also bring a backpack or book bag, and a pillow (linens and towels are provided). Tobacco users should bring their own, as smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas. Do not bring electronics such as phones, laptops, tablets, or MP3s, aerosol products (pump bottle hairspray is okay), cologne or perfume, mouthwash with alcohol, provocative clothing or media, condoms, weapons, or unauthorized valuables. Pack light, bring trusted essentials, and leave distractions behind for a focused, supportive recovery stay.

You will be in treatment with adult men and women. Therapy groups are co-ed.
