1. Do you need Detox?
Stopping substances like alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines can be dangerous without medical help.
Medical Detox
A high level of care with 24/7 doctors and nurses. Uses powerful, targeted medications to manage severe withdrawal safely. Best for heavy, long-term use of alcohol, benzos, or opioids.
Comfort Detox
A less intense option for milder cases. Uses basic, non-addictive meds to help with sleep and general discomfort, but not strong withdrawal symptoms.
2. Stay at Home or Live Elsewhere?
After detox (or if you skipped it), choose an environment that best supports your recovery.
Live Elsewhere
Inpatient Treatment
A 24/7 live-in program at a clinical facility. Highly structured and best for those needing constant medical and therapeutic supervision.
Residential Treatment
Live in a sober, home-like setting while attending structured day treatment. Offers more freedom and real-world practice than inpatient.
Stay at Home
Outpatient (PHP/IOP)
Attend scheduled therapy at a facility for several hours a day, multiple days a week, while living at your own home.
Drug Maintenance (MAT)
An outpatient program where you receive medication (e.g., Suboxone) and counseling to manage opioid cravings long-term.
3. What's Next?
Sober Living
A common step-down after Inpatient/Residential. Live with peers in a substance-free home while transitioning back to work or school.
Anonymous Meetings
Groups like AA/NA are vital for maintaining long-term recovery and building a sober support network, regardless of the path you take.
