Age-Specific Continuum of Care for Teens
Sandstone Care offers a comprehensive range of programs tailored specifically for adolescents. Their structured approach ensures that each teen receives the appropriate level of support as they progress through their recovery, from the immersive environment of residential care to the flexibility of outpatient services.
Typical Stay: 45-60 Days
The cornerstone of their program, residential treatment provides a highly structured, substance-free environment. It features a 7-week curriculum with individual, group, and family therapy, as well as academic support and experiential activities, all designed to address the root causes of a teen's struggles.
Schedule: 5 days/week, 5 hours/day
Partial Hospitalization serves as a critical step-down from residential care or an alternative for teens who don't require 24/7 supervision. It offers a full day of therapeutic programming, allowing clients to practice recovery skills while returning home in the evenings.
Schedule: 4 days/week, 3 hours/day
IOP provides robust clinical support while allowing teens to maintain their regular school and home life. This program is ideal for reinforcing recovery skills and addressing challenges as they arise in real-time. A virtual IOP option is also available for increased accessibility.
Environment & Accommodations
Sandstone Care's Maryland campus is uniquely designed as a complex of four comfortable homes nestled in a serene, green setting. This house-like environment fosters a sense of community and safety, moving away from a clinical, institutional feel. The total capacity is spread across the four houses, with 10-12 teens per house, ensuring small group sizes and personalized attention. While the overall program is co-ed, the houses are separated by gender to ensure client comfort and focus.
Teens live in one of four gender-specific houses, creating a comfortable, family-style atmosphere conducive to healing and peer support.
All rooms are shared with roommates. This arrangement helps build camaraderie, reduce isolation, and encourage peer accountability.
Each house is staffed 24/7 with Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), and a nurse splits time between the houses to provide medical oversight.
Policies & Rules
While not a locked facility, this is a closed campus. Teens remain on-site and participate in a highly structured schedule of planned activities.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (e.g., Suboxone) is supported as part of a comprehensive treatment plan when deemed clinically necessary by the medical team.
The entire campus is a smoke-free and vape-free environment. Nicotine replacement therapy, such as patches, is offered to teens.
Personal cell phones, laptops, and other internet-capable devices are strictly prohibited to ensure teens can fully focus on their recovery.
In-person family visits are not part of the program. However, weekly family therapy sessions are conducted via Zoom to ensure families are deeply involved in the healing process.
Weapons, non-prescribed drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, and revealing clothing are not allowed. A full list is provided during admission.
