Frequently Asked Questions

Program & Treatment

Why choose this program? What makes it different?

With decades of experience since 1992, we offer a comprehensive approach to behavioral health, including employee assistance, outpatient services, community support, and foster care. We are committed to excellence, providing affordable, accessible, and high-quality care that honors client dignity and sets a standard for innovative addiction services.

What substance use disorder treatment programs do you offer?

We offer two core programs for adults: a Social (non-medical) Detoxification program to manage withdrawal symptoms safely, followed by a 30-day Residential Treatment program.

How do you treat dual diagnosis / co-occurring disorders?

Yes, we treat co-occurring mental health disorders alongside substance use. Our staff includes nurses and counselors, and we utilize telehealth services for access to medical providers to address these integrated needs.

What types of therapies are used?

Our therapeutic approach focuses on addressing core emotional and psychological issues through individual and group counseling. We help clients work through anxieties, depression, emotional trauma, family problems, and stress management to build coping skills for a healthy life.

Does this program use the 12-Steps?

Yes, the 12-Steps are a central component of our program. Clients attend both in-house and community-based AA/NA meetings as part of their daily schedule.

Is the program faith-based?

No, our program is not faith-based. It is a clinical program centered on evidence-based practices and the 12-Step model, which is spiritual but not religious, making it welcoming to people of all beliefs.

How long has this facility been open?

Behavioral Health Specialists, the parent organization, was founded in 1992 and has been providing care for decades.

Are there psychiatrists and psychologists on staff?

No, there are no doctors, psychiatrists, or psychologists on-site. The on-site team consists of nurses and counselors. Access to medical providers is facilitated through telehealth services.

Cost & Admission

What will my costs be for treatment?

The self-pay rate is $400 per day for social detox and $500 per day for residential treatment. A typical 30-day stay, which includes a period of detox, costs approximately $15,000. We also accept Nebraska Medicaid and various private insurance plans.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept Nebraska Medicaid and a wide range of private insurance plans, including Aetna, BCBS of Nebraska, Cigna, Midlands Choice, and United HealthCare, among others. Please call to verify your specific plan.

Do you provide detoxification services?

We offer social (non-medical) detoxification. This means we provide a safe, supervised environment for withdrawal. If a client requires medical intervention for detox, we will refer them to a local hospital at their own cost.

Is Suboxone (MAT) permitted?

Yes. While we do not prescribe or initiate Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) like Suboxone, clients who are already on a stable prescription from their doctor are allowed to continue their medication while in our care.

Daily Life, Rules & Family

How long will I be there?

The standard length of stay for our residential program is 30 days. This follows a social detox period which typically lasts 5 to 7 days.

What is the living situation like? Can I get my own room?

The living situation is in a structured, facility-style environment (a former nursing home). Private rooms are not available. Clients share a room with two other individuals of the same gender. Bathrooms are also shared.

Is this a closed/locked facility?

Yes, for the safety and security of our clients, this is a locked facility. While treatment is voluntary and a client could choose to leave, they are not permitted to go outside unsupervised.

Can I use my phone/laptop? Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas during breaks. Personal electronics like cell phones and laptops are strictly prohibited to ensure focus on recovery. After a 7-day initial blackout period, you may use the facility's landline for one 10-minute call per day.

What should I bring? What should I leave at home?

Bring: A completed physical form, a 30-day supply of all prescribed medications, 7 changes of comfortable clothing, pajamas, personal hygiene items (alcohol-free), and your insurance card.
Leave at home: Electronics (cell phones, radios), aerosol cans, products containing alcohol (perfume, some mouthwash), inappropriate reading material, drug/alcohol paraphernalia, nail polish, and e-cigarettes.

What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?

Inpatient addiction treatment means you live at the facility full-time, usually for 30–90 days, in a highly structured environment where your day is scheduled with therapy, group sessions, medical care, meals, and downtime; it feels immersive and supportive, but also restrictive since you’re away from home, work, and family. Outpatient treatment, on the other hand, lets you live at home and continue daily life while attending scheduled therapy and support sessions at a clinic several times a week; it feels more flexible and less disruptive, but also requires more self-discipline because you’ll still face your usual triggers and responsibilities outside of treatment.

What is the layout of the campus?

The campus consists of a single-story building that was formerly a nursing home. It includes client wings with bedrooms and shared bathrooms, a dining hall, group rooms, offices, and designated outdoor areas.

Who provides care here? Are there psychiatrists on staff?

Care is provided by a team of on-site nurses and licensed counselors. There are no doctors or psychiatrists physically on staff, but clients have access to medical providers through telehealth services as needed.

Who will be in treatment with me?

You will be in treatment with other co-ed adults (18+) from various backgrounds, many of whom are utilizing Nebraska Medicaid. The facility has a capacity of 23 clients, creating a small and supportive peer community. While the program is co-ed, rooms are gender-specific.

What is the family involvement and visitation policy?

Family involvement is encouraged. Visits are permitted on weekends. Additionally, a special family day is held every other Thursday to help loved ones participate in the healing process. Note there is an initial 7-day period with no visits or calls.

What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?

We offer robust discharge planning. While we do not have our own outpatient program at this location, we can refer clients to our sister facility in Norfolk for continuing care. For clients remaining in Nebraska, we offer a virtual "Community Support" program for ongoing connection and support.
