Frequently Asked Questions
Substance Use FAQ
Is drug rehab at Focus covered by insurance?
Yes, we are in network with most major insurance companies. If your carrier or policy does not cover your care, our admissions team aims to be as supportive and flexible as possible in making treatment accessible and affordable.
What activities are part of your drug rehab program?
We believe in treating the whole person– physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. We offer yoga, art therapy, music therapy, nutritional therapy, and weekly outings funded by Focus including going to the movies, park visits, hikes, etc. Our goal is for our patients to learn how to have fun and enjoy life while clean and sober.
Do you utilize a 12-step philosophy?
We are not a 12-step program, but we do utilize the 12-step philosophies in our treatment approach.
What is a typical day like at Focus?
A typical day begins with breakfast, our morning bell tradition, and meditation or yoga. After meditation, patients participate in group therapy, followed by self care time, and then lunch. After lunch, patients participate in a specialized group such as relapse prevention, a community meeting or art therapy. Patients then have free time before dinner. After dinner, patients will participate in a 12-step meeting (on or off site) followed by self-care time for assignments or visiting with other patients. Patient schedules are structured and busy. That said, we strategically incorporate free time for visiting and connecting with one another as well as downtime to promote overall healing.
How long does detoxification usually last?
The average detoxification period lasts between 4 and 10 days but can be longer depending on intensity and substance used. In many cases, we can provide medication support to avoid or minimize harsh withdrawal symptoms.
What is your smoking/vaping policy?
Patients may smoke in the courtyard during designated free times. Vaping is also allowed during those times, but only sealed commercial cartridges are permitted.
How many people are in a room?
Our residential unit accommodates two people in each room.
Will I be meeting with a psychiatrist?
Upon admission, each patient has an initial meeting and evaluation with our psychiatrist. After the intake meeting, each patient will work with our psychiatrist on an as needed basis.
How long do people usually stay at Focus?
Length of stay varies for each patient based on their specific needs. Inpatient length ranges from 16 to 45 days, with 21 to 35 days as the most common for lasting recovery. Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient services are offered for step-down levels of care after patients have completed residential treatment.
When are visiting hours?
Visitation is on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm with eligibility beginning 5 days after admission.
Do you offer treatment programs for family members?
Yes, we offer weekly family therapy with the patient’s individual therapist, along with free family support groups. Family involvement is essential for long term recovery, and we want to help loved ones understand the importance of their roles both during and after treatment.
How can I continue to provide for my family while I’m away at treatment?
We understand family absence can be a deterrent for people when it comes to seeking help. Going to rehab means time away from your family and responsibilities. Our team is here to help provide the support you need, and to support your family through the whole treatment process. We try to help potential patients understand that there are endless ways to provide support for your family. Assertive communication, learning how to talk things through, and problem solving can go a long way. During treatment, we help families get creative with how they can be there for each other, and to ultimately realize that getting healthy will ultimately allow them to show up for their loved ones even more consistently and effectively.

Do you take insurance?
Yes, Focus is in network with many insurance companies including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United Behavioral Health (UBH) Cigna and Magellan. Do I have to eat all the food on my plate?
The percentage of the meal you need to complete at each mealtime and snack time is a therapeutic decision between you and our Focus dietitian. Our goal is that before completing our program, you will have the gained the tools and skills necessary to honor your personal recovery needs at each stage of your journey.
What if I’m a vegetarian, have food allergies, or food preferences?
The Registered Dietitians at Focus are empathetic and sensitive to each patient’s likes, dislikes, beliefs, and fears surrounding food. We are flexible in our menus and offer vegetarian options. While patients are not forced to eat any particular foods, we do work diligently with each person to untangle food preferences from eating disorder behaviors.
Are bathroom visits supervised?
Yes, between the hours of 7am and 7pm as well as 30 minutes after evening snack time, bathroom use is supervised.
How do you establish meal plans?
Within the first 72 hours of a patient admitting, our Registered Dietitians utilize a metabolic cart to best determine how a patient’s body is breaking down nutrients. Based on the results of this test, your dietitian will work with you to develop a meal plan that fits your specific needs.
