Frequently Asked Questions
Program & Treatment
Why choose this program? What makes it different?
We provide a unique combination of evidence-based therapies, a supportive 12-Step model, and dual diagnosis treatment in a comfortable, modern facility. Our acceptance of West Virginia Medicaid makes high-quality care accessible to more people in the community.
What substance use disorder treatment programs do you offer?
We offer a focused continuum of care that includes medically supervised Detoxification and an immersive Residential Treatment program.
How do you treat dual diagnosis / co-occurring disorders?
Our program integrates mental health care with addiction treatment. We address co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma simultaneously with substance use to ensure a more holistic and effective recovery.
What types of therapies are used in your addiction treatment programs?
We utilize a blend of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), alongside individual counseling and group therapy sessions.
Does this program use the 12-Steps?
Yes, our program is based on a 12-Step model. Participation is encouraged but not forced, and we host on-site meetings to support this approach to recovery.
Is the program faith-based?
While we welcome individuals of all beliefs, our program is not strictly faith-based. We do offer optional, non-denominational sermons on Thursdays and Sundays for those who wish to incorporate a spiritual component into their recovery.
How long has this facility been open?
Harmony Ridge Recovery Center was founded in 2018 and is committed to serving the West Virginia community.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?
Inpatient (or residential) treatment requires clients to live at the facility 24/7, providing an immersive, structured, and trigger-free environment. Outpatient treatment allows clients to live at home while attending scheduled therapies. Our Barboursville location focuses on inpatient care for those needing a higher level of support.

What will my costs be for treatment?

Do you provide detoxification services?
Yes, we provide a comprehensive, medically supervised detox program to ensure a safe and comfortable start to the recovery process.

Daily Life, Rules & Family
Is this a closed/locked facility?
Our program is voluntary, so it is not a locked facility. However, for the safety and focus of our community, it is a secure campus. Clients are not permitted to leave the property without staff supervision and will be discharged if they do so.
What is the living situation like?
Our Barboursville location is a modern, single-story building in a town setting, offering a structured, facility-style environment rather than a cabin or home-like setting.
Can I get my own room or bathroom?
No, all client rooms and bathrooms are shared. This semi-private arrangement is designed to foster peer support and a sense of community during treatment.
Can I use my phone or laptop? Is there WiFi?
No. To help clients focus fully on their recovery, personal electronics like cell phones and laptops are not permitted and will be locked away securely. After an initial 7-day blackout period, clients can use facility landlines. Supervised use of a phone for essential tasks may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
Is smoking/vaping allowed?
Yes, clients are permitted to smoke or vape in designated outdoor areas during scheduled breaks.
What should I bring with me?

Who will be in treatment with me? What is the facility's capacity?
Our program serves a diverse population of co-ed adults (18+). You will be in a community of peers from various backgrounds, including those with private insurance and West Virginia Medicaid. The facility has a capacity of 70 beds.
Are family visits allowed?
To maintain a focused treatment environment, in-person family visits are not permitted. We facilitate family connection through scheduled video calls and phone calls on facility landlines.
What is the family involvement in the treatment process?
While visits are not allowed, we encourage family involvement through regular communication via phone and video calls to provide support and updates on progress.
What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?
We provide comprehensive discharge planning. While we do not offer our own outpatient or sober living programs, our team will work closely with you to create a robust aftercare plan and connect you with trusted local providers for your next level of care.
Is there any follow-up after discharge?
Our primary follow-up is the execution of the aftercare plan we develop with you, which includes referrals to outpatient programs, therapists, and support groups to ensure continuity of care.
