What is the living situation like? Can I get my own room?
The living situation is comfortable and home-like. Clients live in a house with up to 14 other peers. All rooms are shared with roommates; private rooms are not available.
Is this a closed/locked facility?

Yes, smoking and vaping are permitted in designated outdoor areas. Personal electronics like phones and laptops are not allowed. After a 3-day initial period, clients can use the facility's landline phone.
What should I bring?
When preparing for a treatment program, it's best to pack about a week's worth of comfortable, modest clothing that can be layered, along with appropriate sleepwear and outerwear for the climate. You should also bring essential personal hygiene products (alcohol-free), your ID and insurance card, any prescription medications in their original bottles, and a list of important phone numbers. For downtime, it's a good idea to pack a journal, books, or other non-electronic hobbies to keep you occupied and engaged in self-reflection.
What should I leave at home?
It is crucial to leave all non-prescribed drugs, alcohol, and any products containing alcohol at home. Valuables such as expensive jewelry, large amounts of cash, and personal electronics like laptops or tablets are typically not allowed. Additionally, do not bring weapons of any kind, revealing clothing, items with drug- or alcohol-related branding, or any outside food and drinks, as these are universally prohibited.
Support, Staff & Community

The clinical team consists of on-site nurses and licensed counselors. Medical oversight is provided by doctors or nurse practitioners who connect with clients virtually. There are no on-staff psychiatrists or psychologists.
Who will be in treatment with me?
The program is co-ed for adults (18+). Each house has a capacity of 15 clients, creating a small, intimate community. The clientele is a mix of individuals with NM Medicaid and private insurance, all working toward recovery together.
What is the family involvement and visitation policy?
To help clients remain focused on their personal recovery journey, on-site family visitation is not permitted during the residential program.
What kind of aftercare and follow-up support is available?
Icarus provides robust aftercare planning. Support options include stepping down to their Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), their unique Aftercare with Housing program, and connection to a supportive alumni program.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment?
Inpatient and outpatient addiction treatments differ primarily in their level of intensity and living arrangements. Inpatient treatment requires you to live at a residential facility 24/7, offering a highly structured, immersive, and medically supervised environment completely removed from outside triggers. Standard outpatient treatment, in contrast, allows you to live at home and attend scheduled therapy sessions at a clinic, providing more flexibility to manage work or family life while in recovery. An aftercare program that combines outpatient services with housing is a step-down level of care, often called sober living, where you reside in a supportive, substance-free home with peers while still attending regular outpatient therapy, helping to bridge the gap between intensive inpatient care and returning to full independence.
